Comics!

I started a Graphic Novel Course at the Prince's School. It's great. I've only been there once so I'll post some stuff later.

In the mean time, here are a couple of comics I made for Suwappu.

Suwappu!

I've been working on a secret project at work. Dentsu London and Berg made this little film after I suggested we made toys.

Suwappu are a range of toys that are split in the middle so you can swap them around. When viewed through – say an iPhone, their environments appear. They also speak to each other with nice little speech bubbles.

Papercamp 2

I wrote a blog post on the Dentsu blog about what I did on Saturday. I went to Papercamp to talk about a couple of projects. I'm so glad events like Papercamp exist.

Wallpaper*

I spent a whole week in a room with Junichi Harima from Dentsu in Osaka and he taught me a couple of techniques. We made the cover and a few spreads for Wallpaper magazine, using Robert Wilson's beautiful images.

Last Tuesday, I flew to Toulouse to go and stick some posters around an 800 year-old hospital. For four days last week, the whole thing was invaded by young artists, creatives and craftsmen for Imaginez Maintenant. I did the signage for it and here are a couple of images. I'm really happy with the result. It was a bit of a tricky one as it's flippin' huge and there still are a few patients and employees walking around during the day. It was important not to do something too garish and showy; hospitals can be a bit sensitive and this one's still open to a few out patients.


When I left on Sunday no one had got lost so I guess I did a good job.

The weather was brilliant and everyone involved in the project even better. I met a couple of people who did some pretty cool stuff and even did a couple of radio interviews.

Jan Vormann filled the gaps in the crumbling brick walls with Lego (Dispatchwork) and showed his lovely and delicate SLEM3, a life-extension machine for soap bubbles. It worked most of the time (when Jan wasn't watching the footie - he's German).


The lovely Laurène Chesnel kept me company most of the time when she could get away from her supercute shop. Her and 4 friends made loads of little hand-made and not so hand-made objects to sell in her Museum Shop. She's a brilliant designer, we've been working together for years without ever having met or spoken.

5.5 designers sold tons of their objects for Save A Product For 1€ (look in 'projects'). There were tons of other super interesting projects but I haven't got all day so what you can do is go here and have a look for yourself.

I made this yesterday for Robin Sillau because I miss hearing from her.

'Marshwallow?' 'Not thanks.'

The Centre de Développement Chorégraphique in Toulouse have been given some space in a building near their office and they've turned it into a big flat with 7 bedrooms and a kitchen/living area that has a massive dance studio above it. That way, companies can come for a couple of weeks and all stay and work together in the same place. At the moment, it looks a bit like an old people's home with all its fire safety cards, disabled showers and non-slip floors. So they asked a lady who used to be a decorator and an awesome upholsterer to make it look nice and look after it. So she's going to decorate each room and she'll also be there when it's occupied to welcome people and cook one meal a day for them.

They also thought it would be a good idea to have me draw all over the walls. I drew a forest with some animals saying stuff vaguely related to communal living and painted some little reminders in all the bedrooms, bathrooms and corridor.

The pictures are not very good but I'll take some proper ones when the furniture's in.

UT MEGACULTURE

I've been at CDP for a little while doing some ads for UNIQLO. They've launched hundreds of new t-shirt designs and decided it would be a good idea to tell people about it, which is usually when advertising comes in handy. The collages use tons of pictures of good looking models and anime images, with a couple of Harings and Basquiats thrown into the mix. It was a fun project but a bit of a logistical nightmare since all of the images on there have to have a different copyright, you see. But we got through it and successfully spread it all over London. I've been doing other things but I'll show you later.

That was the brief for this illustration:



So I made a drawing of that annoying Caterpillar guy from Alice in Wonderland being shoved into a giant pipe. That'll shut him up. It's in the Hospital Club mag together with a photo of Yours Truly's face and my life story.

Fame

I did a project with Nick Flügge and it ended up on the Creative Review blog. Look!

They didn't find it essential to talk about the way it looks but it's ok.
